Pale pink walls and a glass balustrade against a turquoise sky

Overview

Marina Bay Retreats wanted a villa that guests remember by its colour. We designed a series of stepped terraces in warm coral plaster, each with a frameless glass edge, so every room opens to the sea and the sky.

Design Concept

The section steps back with the slope: each floor is a little smaller than the one below, and the roof of every room becomes a terrace. Thick plaster walls keep the interior cool without air conditioning.

Colour comes from the material itself – lime plaster tinted with local earth – so it ages softly in the salty air instead of peeling.

Features and Amenities

  • Stepped terraces: every bedroom has its own outdoor room facing the sea.
  • Frameless glass: balustrades that keep the horizon free.
  • Lime plaster: breathable walls coloured with local pigments.
  • Rainwater cistern: collects winter rain for the summer garden.

Solutions

Strict height limits on the coast ruled out a second tower, so we dug the guest wing into the hill. Its roof is the pool deck, and its rooms get daylight from a sunken courtyard.
